Body Building Can it Be a Bad Thing? Body builders have rock hard bodies, very little fat and seem to be very healthy from the looks of things. Looks can be deceiving. A body builder can actually be malnourished. It is hard to believe but it is true. Resistance training using weights is really hard on the body. The body consumes more fuel (calories) and the way the body stores nutrients changes when the sculpting process begins. Eating Right Eating right takes on a whole new meaning when it comes to body building. There are food groups that body builders focus on to help them bulk up and keep their energy levels up. Typically a body builder gets most of their calories from lean proteins and carbohydrates. Unfortunately they may unknowingly not eat enough. To build muscle at the rate a body builder does takes a lot of protein, proper nutrition for the average person compared to a body builder are two very different things. A body builder will need to consume six meals a day made up of 40% of carbohydrates, 40% proteins and 20% good fats. A lot of body builders ignore the good fats part of the diet and focus only on the protein and carbohydrates part. This is dangerous the body needs fats to function. Skipping meals for a body builder is not an option, a skipped meal can put the body in a catabolic state, where the body starts conserving fat stores. Calorie rotation is also recommended for weight training, instead of consuming 4000-5000 all the time, it is best practice to spend a week in high calorie consumption than a week at about half in the low calorie ranges. This will keep the metabolism up. Water is the best thing to drink for body building, energy drinks are often substituted for water in the gym, but water replenishes the bodies fluid supply exactly as it should. Supplements Supplements include vitamins and additional macronutrients to supplement the diet. Protein, carbohydrates and an array of other nutrients are available in many different delivery methods and are a necessity when undertaking a body building regime. A serious bodybuilder should not forego the use of supplements, it will keep the body finely tuned, able to heal quicker and help the body to produce the desired results. Anabolic steroids are also talked about as supplements but these types of supplements have no nutrition value and are used for other reasons. A book cannot be judged by its cover, just because a body builder is sculpted and looks healthy does not mean things are healthy on the inside. Diet and nutrition is the best way to keep your body healthy inside and out. |
